Although they’ve come to be known affectionately as the ‘Watermelon Hoya,’ these plants are actually a type of Dischidia with small, round leaves covered in white stripes (resembling watermelons). These climbing plants are relatively tolerant, and will most enjoy bright, indirect light. Water moderately, and as a bonus, provide humidity or misting when possible. Some leaves will deepen to a purpley-red in brighter light, but keep away from harsh, direct sunlight as that may cause sunburn. Benefits from regular fertilizing (every 4-8 weeks).
Growth pattern: Climbing and trailing. Requires something to climb on, like a trellis or moss pole.
Flowers: Creamy yellow/green with purple lines. Please note: Hoyas typically do not bloom until the plant is at maturity. This can take approximately 5 years.
